Studying abroad after medical school in India can be quite rewarding. The upgradation from the standards of the indian medical society to a different and more standardised legal system is what most of the medical students aim for. It leads to a whole new world of opportunities and job validation.

What is a clinical elective?

A clinical elective is an experience you gain by working as a rotary intern in any hospital or college for at least a month, and gain knowledge and expertise about the clinical work, patient care, and education, hospital management through the expertise offered by them, sometimes under supervision.

Choose your goal

  • What do you want to specialise in?

  • What college do you want to choose?

  • Can you afford the cost of living? If not, do you have the eligibility to choose the scholarship?

  • What hospital do you wish to work in?

How to prepare?

  • Explore your options - Explore the opportunities available in your field. If you wish to specialise in a different field, do thorough research on that field before you dive deep into it.

  • Decide your destination - Various overseas options are available. Make sure you select your dream country after careful processing, as different countries require different levels of examinations and requirements to become eligible for their programs.

  • Language barrier - Make sure you check whether they require any specific language exams like IELTS or TOEFL, or if they require certification in the country’s own language ( most German colleges may require German certification of up to B2 level), and start preparing for it.

  • Search for scholarships - Studying abroad can be quite expensive, including the tuition fees and the cost of living. Finding scholarships available for you can help lessen this burden.

  • Prepare your applications early - Early processing of applications can be quite advantageous in achieving your goal.

  • Apply for everything - Apply for all the universities you are aiming for, even if it is optional, as you won’t become disheartened if you fail to succeed in getting your dream college.

  • Check authenticity - Scammers are all around, and you are vulnerable to their trap, as you are oblivious to the area. Double-check the authenticity of every piece of information you obtain.

In the end, it all boils down to how well you research the field you are choosing and the scope of that field.
